Ludhiana, October 23

After finding “poor quality” work, Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu today ordered to reconstruct a recently re-carpeted road near the Kochar Market Chowk area.

During the inspection of the road, Ashu was accompanied by MC councillors Mamta Ashu and Baljinder Singh Bunty.

On finding that the contractor was re-carpeting the road in a “poor manner”, he immediately ordered that the road be uprooted and a new road “following proper quality parameters be constructed”.

Following the minister’s order, a portion of the newly carpeted road was dismantled.

Ashu also ordered that strict action should be taken against the officials who failed to supervise the re-carpeting of the road.

Meanwhile, RTI activist Arvind Sharma has written a complaint to the Principal Secretary, Department of Local Government against the alleged poor quality the same road. In his complaint, he has demanded that the samples of the recently re-carpeted road should be collected and vigilance inquiry be marked.

The Council of RTI Activists president, Rohit Sabharwal, said, “When I had observed that the road was not being carpeted in the right manner yesterday, I had made a complaint to the MC official Raman Kaushal in this regard. The MC should ensure the construction or carpeting of the roads in a proper manner as per the rules.”

Despite repeated attempts, the MC’s officiating executive engineer Raman Kaushal could not be contacted for comments.
