PPCB chief inspects CETP on Bahadur Ke Road

Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) Chairman SS Marwaha visited the common effluent treatment plant (CETP) on Bahadur Ke Road today to check the progress made by the Bahadur Ke Textile and Knitwear Association (BKTKA) in running the plant and to monitor the treatment efficiency of the plant.

Marwaha was accompanied by a team of officials of the PPCB, Ludhiana, including chief environmental engineer Gulshan Rai, senior environmental engineer Sandeep Bahl and environmental engineer Paramjit Singh.

The team inspected all technology systems and also carried out an inspection of the laboratory on the CETP premises.

The chairman directed the SPV to ensure regular and effective operation of the CETP and contribute to the dream of a pollution-free city. He assured that the other 2 CETPs of 40 and 50 MLD were in an advanced stage and would be completed by December this year. The chairman acknowledged the efforts of the BKTKA for achieving the milestone, said Sandeep Bahl.

Bahl said: “In an effort to effectively treat the effluent from dyeing industries of Bahadur Ke Road at single point, a CETP of 15-MLD capacity has been established by the Bahadurke Road Textile and Knitwear Association. This first-of-its-kind CETP plant in the state has been established with a state-of-the-art technology systems such as SCADA systems that will remotely control the entire operation of the CETP, including chemical dosing, and also give a real time data related to quality and quantity of effluent from the CETP as well as individual dyeing industries, situated in Bahadurke cluster.”
