Ludhiana: The Special Branch wing of the Ludhiana police nabbed a proclaimed offender wanted in a liquor smuggling case. The accused has been identified as Manjeet Singh of Rajput village. He was booked at the Shimlapuri police station under the Excise Act. In-charge of the Special Branch, inspector Beant Juneja conducted a press meet in this regard. Juneja said today that a tip-off was received about the whereabouts of the accused. After which, the police conducted a raid and nabbed the accused. Juneja said In the past two days, two other POs, Gurmej Singh of Chaunta village, wanted in a liquor smuggling case, and Mukesh Kumar of Basti Jodhewal, wanted in a gambling case, were also nabbed. Meanwhile, the PO wing also nabbed Amanjot Singh, alias Donkey, of Preet Nagar, who is wanted by the police in three criminal cases, including of loot, and an illegal weapon case. TNS
Savings Accounts for girl child
Ludhiana: A special drive for opening of Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts for the girl child aged below 10 years has been started in the Ludhiana city postal division. Under the scheme, accounts can be opened with an initial deposit of Rs 250 by parents or legal guardian of the girl child, for maximum of two children and only one account can be opened for a girl child in the country. A maximum of Rs 1,50,000 can be deposited in one financial year under the scheme which is tax free under Section 80-C, states the press note of the Postal Department. With the scheme offering a rate of interest fixed at 7.6 per cent in the current financial year, Income Tax rebate under Section 80-C and tax free maturity amount, people can enjoy the bundle of advantages it is offering by opening the SSA account of their daughters. Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts can be opened in any post office in the region. TNS
