The Dehlon police have arrested six members of a gang, who were involved in duping innocent residents of rural areas. They used to allure them by saying that they would double their money and give them paper packets with Rs2,000 printed notes instead of actual notes.

The packets, seized from the custody of the accused, looked genuine currency packets when seen through tinted glasses.

The accused have been booked under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC and have been identified as Soma Singh, alias Kamal, of Sangowal; Rachhpal Singh Pala of Raikot; Budh Singh Budhu of Maulvian Mohalla Raikot; Niraj, alias Jass, of Khanna; Ram Singh of Rurka Kalan near Mullanpur and Dogar Singh of Kanganwal village in Ludhiana district.

The accused were arrested when they were hunting for their target in a Tavera SUV bearing yellow number plate (PB 01- 1370).

Dehlon SHO Kulwant Singh said cops lead by Investigation Officer Davinder Singh intercepted the accused during a naka at Rural Chowk on Dehlon Sahnewal Road. Two litre bleaching solution, a bottle containing weak iodine solution, 18 packets of currency size paper with Rs2,000 note print on each side, two tinted glasses, brown tape and scissor used in preparing the packets were seized from the accused.

The accused said in the past few months, they have duped Rs1,50,000 from people in Hoshiarpur district, Rs2,50,000 in Tanda, Hoshiarpur district, and Rs2,50,000 in Jalandhar area.

On modus operandi, Kulwant Singh said the target was approached by some members of the gang according to a pre-decided programme and he or she was demonstrated how their money would be doubled with the help of tinted glass while delivering the packets containing plane paper.

In case of any suspicion, one of members of the gang would feign death which frightened the victim and swindlers would flee leaving him duped.
