An oil and diagnostic testing laboratory has been set up by the Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) at 220KV sub-station on Ferozepur Road here. Equipped with modern technology, the laboratory was inaugurated by Yogesh Tandon, Director (Technical), PSTCL, today. Vinod Bansal, Director, F&C, and Sanjeev Sharma, Director, Administration, were guests of honour on the occasion.
The laboratory was equipped with electrical equipment testing and diagnostic facilities. It could diagnose various transformer parameters, batteries, insulation oil, health of insulation, SF-6 gas leakages and surge arrestors.
Rajbir Singh Walia, in-charge of the laboratory, Additional Superintending Engineer/Protection and Operation Services, said the laboratory was fully equipped to test the sample of oils from the new supply of transformers as part of pre-commissioning as well as existing transformers, the healthiness of batteries for DC supply and other equipment installed at the PSTCL grid sub-stations.
“Facilities are also provided to the PSPCL and other utilities to get their samples tested on the rates fixed for the same,” he added.
Walia said an application to get the NABL certification has been submitted and the laboratory would be accredited. An investment of Rs 10 crore had been made in setting up this lab in past eight years. Earlier, the lab was operational in the office building of CE/P&M but now it had been shifted to this newly constructed building as per NABL requirements.
