Punbus strike continues

LUDHIANA: Travellers to various parts of the state continued to face problems as the strike by the Punbus Contract Workers Union of Punjab Roadways entered its second day on Tuesday.

Ludhiana, July 17

Travellers to various parts of the state continued to face problems as the strike by the Punbus Contract Workers Union of Punjab Roadways entered its second day on Tuesday. Heavy rain compounded the problems of travellers as many roads of the city were flooded while the others witnessed heavy traffic jams.

The local bus stand wore a deserted look. Only the buses of the PRTC and those of private operators were plying.

President of the union Satnam Singh said the state government had been unnecessarily delaying fulfilment of their demands. “We have been raising these demands for a long time. We had no option but to go on strike because the government is showing no seriousness in meeting our demands,” he added. — TNS
