Ludhiana, June 25
A special drive against drug smugglers, called ‘Rat Hunt”, was launched by the police today.
A search operation was carried out in areas notorious for drug smuggling in Ludhiana. In a statement released by the city police, it was stated that a cordon and search operation, headed by ADCP Deepak Pareekh, was carried out at Talwandi Kalan village under the Salem Tabri police station early in the morning.
During the operation, 10 habitual criminals, including three women, were rounded up. Three cases under the NDPS Act were registered against them.
A joint team of seven police stations, PCR, Narcotic Cell and the CIA staff, comprising 64 policemen, took part in the operation.
The DCP (Crime), SPS Dhindsa, said the drive was launched under the supervision of Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal. Raids were conducted at the suspected whereabouts of smugglers in the city areas. A few repeated offenders were rounded up under section 110 of the CrPC.
The DCP said the drive would continue.
