Two persons, one from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Delhi, duped a local resident on the pretext of arranging a loan under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The suspects have been identified as Manik Das, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, and Ranjan Kamlesh, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, New Delhi. Both have absconded.
The complainant, Navjot Singh of Mann Nagar alleged that he had filled in the online form to get a loan under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Within two days of filling in the form, he got a phone call. The called informed him that his loan had been approved.
“The person, who called me up, asked me to deposit Rs 21,000. I accordingly deposited the amount. Next day, I again got a call. The caller again told me to deposit Rs 20,000 as advance loan instalment was required to be deposited to get the loan. The caller identified herself as Priya Sharma, and she claimed to have her office at Sikhar Building at Janakpuri in Delhi,” he alleged.
The bank accounts in which he deposited the amount belong to some Ranjan (in Kotak Mahindra) and Sushant (in SBI), said the complainant.
“After I deposited the amount, the said persons started making hollow promises. They are also not responding to my repeated phone calls. Since I am a daily wage labourer and live in rented accommodation, whatever I saved with my hard work I gave it to the suspects,” said the victim.
The investigating officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector Satwinder Singh, said a police party would conduct a raid in UP and Delhi to nab the suspects.
