Residents chip in to combat Covid-19

Ludhiana, April 6

A number of city residents have come forward to contribute their bit towards the relief fund to fight Covid-19 pandemic.

An ex-Commandant of the ITBP, Mohinder Singh, (retired) has donated Rs 5 lakh towards the Punjab Chief Minister Relief Fund to fight Covid-19. He is also a renowned mountain climber (leader Mt Everest-1996).

Mohinder Singh (76) of Model Gram area said, “I have donated Rs 5 lakh from the amount that I saved in my 37 years of service in the ITBP and the 19 years of my retirement. I presented a demand draft of Rs 5 lakh to the Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu at his office in Ludhiana.”

A former Zonal Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, Kamlesh Bansal, has announced to donate one-third of his pension (from April to December 2020) for the relief fund. “I have volunteered to donate one-third of my pension to the Government of India, for Covid-affected families, up to the end of this year. I was inspired by Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat and my family to come forward for the noble cause.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Medium Industries Development Board Chairman Amarjit Singh Tikka announced to donate his one month salary for the Fund.
