Residents of Narangwal village sombre over influencer's murder in Canada
Social media influencer Nancy Grewal was killed outside her house in Canada
Residents of Narangwal village in Ludhiana district, the ancestral village of Nancy Grewal, are sombre over her death. Social media influencer Nancy Grewal was killed outside her house in Canada.
Leaders from social and political outfits condemned the incident, arguing that governments worldwide are heading towards anarchies.
Locals said the family was closely related to Ranjit Singh, a former panch. The family shifted to Jodhan village before moving to Jalandhar.
According to Manjinder Singh Grewal, sarpanch, the family has property in the village and had lodged a complaint regarding a dispute in 2024.
“Though the complaint was lodged before my tenure, Block Development Panchayat Officer’s office contacted me for clarifications,” said Grewal.
Prabhdeep Narangwal, former zila parishad member, said locals came know about Nancy’s association with the region about five years ago, when she disclosed information about her roots in a video.
Tarsem Jodhan, former legislator, termed the incident a failure of governance worldwide.
“Nancy is not the only victim of failure of governance and nexus between politicians and corporate sector,” said Jodhan, alleging that killings of youngsters here were also part of the same nexus.
Nancy was born in Haryana’s Sirsa district, but the family had later shifted to Narangwal. She shifted to Canada to study at University of Toronto about a decade ago, and was serving as a registered nurse in Windsor.
