Road accident leads to seizure of 2.5 kg heroin in Moga; one arrested, another shifted to hospital
When the bus driver rushed towards the car to help the occupants, he found a cloth bundle sealed with wax
The Kot Ise Khan police in Moga seized 2.5 kg of heroin on Monday, following a road accident. One of the smugglers have been sent to the hospital due to injuries and the other has been arrested.
According to the police one of the accused, identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Rattoke in Tarn Taran, was driving at a high speed when his car collided with a bus near GR Palace. The collision caused significant damage to the bus and its passengers.
When the bus driver rushed towards the car to help the occupants, he found a cloth bundle sealed with wax.
He informed the police, who arrived at the scene shortly after. On closer examination, the package was confirmed to contain 2.5 kilograms of heroin.
“The wax-sealed concealment method suggested that the haul was a part of a planned smuggling run, not a casual carry,” said the police.
"A bus driver stopped to save two lives - and in doing so, stumbled upon a haul that police say could have flooded several districts.", said Balkrishan Singla, SP(D) Moga.
A case has been registered under sections 281 and 324(4) of the BNS and Section 21 of the NDPS Act.
Gurpreet has been undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the crash while the other accused, Darshan Singh a resident of Bhikhiwind has been arrested.
Preliminary investigations indicate that neither individual has a prior criminal record.
