A controversy erupted after the Municipal Corporation executive engineer-cum-workshop in-charge flagged conveyance allowances being given to officials using civic body vehicles.
In a letter to senior officials, executive engineer Arvind recommended conveyance allowance should not be paid to nine officers already using official vehicles.
In the letter addressed to the Joint Commissioner (Operations & Management), Joint Commissioner Headquarters, Joint Commissioner Zone B and other senior officials, he named sub-divisional officer (SDO O&M) Baljinder Singh, SDO (O&M) Kamal Ram, chief sanitation officer Ravi Dogra, chief sanitation officer Ashwani Sahota, chief sanitary inspector Surinder Dogra, chief sanitary inspector Nishu Ghai, superintendent Abdul Sattar, superintendent Vivek Verma and assistant town planner (ATP) Harwinder Singh.
‘Vehicles given to ineligible officials’
He also alleged several officials allotted government vehicles were not even entitled to them. The letter questioned justification of granting conveyance allowance despite availability of official vehicles.
The matter triggered discussion within the MC regarding proper utilisation of public funds and adherence to service rules.
Sources said the matter could lead to scrutiny of similar benefits for officials in other branches of the MC as well.
