With Covid cases spiking everyday in the district, the Health Department has decided to step up collection of samples.
The department has increased the number of teams from three to 50. These teams will collect samples from micro-containment zones. Door-to-door sampling will also be carried out.
‘Tracing contact must’
The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said door-to-door sampling will also be done in the micro-containment zones. At present, the focus is on detecting positive people as also tracking those who had come in contact with Covid patients. Random sampling of factory workers is also being done
The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said: “If anybody feels any symptom of cough, fever or breathlessness, then he or she should get his/her sample tested at the nearest hospital. Now, samples are also collected at urban community health centres of Jawaddi, Subhash Nagar and Giaspura, apart from Civil Hospital,” said Dr Bagga.
Door-to-door sampling will also be done in the micro-containment zones. At present, the focus is on detecting positive people as also tracking those who had come in contact with Covid patients. Random sampling of factory workers is also being done, added Dr Bagga.
On August 1, the number of samples collected was 1,158, followed by 1,162 on August 2, 640 on August 3 and 749 on August 4. On August 5, 949 samples were collected and the number was 954 and 1,085, respectively, in the next two days.
“Whenever the District Administration and the Health Department detect a positive or suspect case pf Covid 19, the samples are immediately sent for testing. I appeal to the residents to follow all directions issued by the Punjab Government. If they stay indoors, they would not only stay safe themselves but would also contribute to keeping everyone around safe,” said Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma.
