Ludhiana, December 4

Once again the Health Department is on its toes amid detection of Omicron variant of Covid. Hospitals have been asked to send samples of positive persons for genome sequencing. In case any foreign returned person tests positive then also the sample will be sent for genome sequencing.

Although testing is being done at airports, but the district Health Department is also leaving no stone unturned to keep a check on everyone coming from abroad.

According officials, the department will be keeping an eye on passengers coming from outside. Fourteen days quarantine is mandatory for people coming from other countries.

Passengers have been categorised into two categories, A and B. The A category passengers will be those, who are coming from countries where Omicron variant has been found. The B category includes those passengers, who are coming from countries where no Omicron variant has been found.

For passengers of both the categories re-testing will be done on eighth day and even if the report comes negative, the person will have to quarantine for a total of 14 days. In case the report comes positive then the sample will also be sent for genome sequencing. Asymptotic persons will stay home quarantined while symptomatic patients will be hospitalised.

The contacts of the passenger will also be tested in case he/she tests positive.
