Almost 17 months after younger son Gurpreet Singh Gura (32) of the Seh village sarpanch, Ranjit Kaur, of Shiromani Akali Dal, was hacked to death over political rivalry, her elder son Ravinder Singh Sonu (38) was also brutally murdered on Tuesday.
Assailants allegedly led by Congress leader Jaswinder Singh from Seh village pumped 17 bullets into the victim’s body and killed him on the spot. The crime was committed with 32 bore weapons. Deceased Ravinder was the Samrala wing YAD president.
Unfortunately, in two years, the woman sarpanch lost her two sons to political rivalry.
After the incident, the Samrala police registered a murder case against 11 persons identified as Congress leader Harjinder Singh, Kulbir Singh, Jagbir Singh, Bikramjit Singh, Manjit Kaur, Binder Singh, Aman Singh, Harwinder Singh, Lala, Shingra Singh and his son.
Sarpanch Ranjit Kaur said her son was doing some cleanliness work in the village on Tuesday morning when several car-borne assailants arrived on the spot and rained bullets at the victim. Assailants left only when her son succumbed to bullet injuries, she added. Bullets also pierced the face of the deceased, she said.
She alleged that on March 23, 2019, Gurpreet, also YAD leader in Samrala, was killed by same assailants. Ravinder was the main eyewitness of Gurpreet’s murder and he was appearing in the court to take murder case to the logical end, but Congress leader Jaswinder and his aides eliminated him to weaken the murder case trial, she added.
Accused Jaswinder was nursing a rivalry as she had defeated his wife Manjit Kaur in the 2018 in panchayat elections, she said.
Sources said when sarpanch’s younger son was murdered, allegations were levelled at Jaswinder, but during the police probe, he was found innocent.
The Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Harpreet Singh, said Ravinder was murdered due to personal rivalry between the family of sarpanch Ranjit Kaur and accused Jaswinder. “We are conducting raids to nab the accused,” the SSP added.
