Students studying in 130 schools of Akal Academies today participated in a webinar to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The students from across five states — Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh — logged in to participate in the webinar, organised by the Kalgidhar Trust Baru Sahib on ‘Role of Children and Youth in Making India Drug-Free’.

In a press note issued today, the Trust claimed that it is the highest global participation in a webinar, and has been noted in the ‘World Book of Records, UK’.

Psychiatrists and counsellors Dr Col Rajinder Singh (MD, DPM, psychiatry, director, Akal Drug De-Addiction Centres, Baru Sahib, and Sangrur), Dr NL Gupta (PhD, psychology), senior psychologist at the Akal Drug De Addiction Centre, Baru Sahib, were the key speakers.

They addressed the students and other youngsters and emphasised on hazards of drug-addiction and illegal trafficking.

The webinar’s duration was 45 minutes. It was live-streamed through Youtube and Facebook.

In Ludhiana district where six Akal Academies (Akal Academy, Dhindsa; Akal Academy, Jandiali; Akal Academy, Sowaddi Kalan; Akal Academy, Rachhin; Akal Academy, Dhamot; and Akal Academy, Jhande) are running, 2,773 students participated, claimed the press release.

Ludhiana: To observe the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Satguru Ram Singh Government Polytechnic College for Girls organised a webinar on Friday.

College principal MP Singh said around 100 students and staff members participated in the webinar.

Senior consultant Dr Sandeep Goyal addressed the participants during the webinar and created awareness about the ill-effects of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
