Ludhiana, May 15

In view of the Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled on May 19 in Punjab, the police have intensified security at major locations, including railway station and bus stand in the city. The security at the local railway station has been increased to keep anti-social elements away during the elections.

During an operation carried out today, the police searched whole premises of the railway station. Luggage of passengers and people visiting the railway station was checked by the police personnel. Trains arriving at the local railway station are also being searched on random basis. A watch is being maintained on the movement of the people at the railway station.

Apart from the Government Railway Police (GRP), teams of Punjab Police and paramilitary forces too have been deployed on the railway station premises. The security forces have been carrying out regular checking of the people and vehicles arriving at the railway station.

“We have increased vigil in the whole city in view of the Lok Sabha elections. It’s our responsibility to ensure peaceful and fair elections. The police force has been working hard to maintain law and order situation in the city,” said Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill.

“A strict vigil is being maintained on the movement of suspicious persons. We appeal to the people to cooperate and inform the police in case they notice suspicious person or activity around them,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Jagraon police have also intensified vigil in the city ahead of the Lok Sabha poll.
