Ludhiana: After the grenade attack on the congregation of Nirankari followers in Amritsar, which killed three people, the Ludhiana Commissionerate beefed up security outside the satsang bhawans of the Nirankari sect. The main satsang bhawan of Nirankaris is situated near Bharat Nagar Chowk, while others are on Tajpur Road, near Ladhowal, Badowal and Sangowal Road. Cops have been deployed outside these bhawans to maintain a vigil and to keep a tab over any unwanted activity. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashwani Kapoor said the security of the three bhawans was strengthened and special police nakas were installed outside these places. Apart from this, patrolling teams will remain active around these bhawans. Sources said apart from the Nirankari sect bhawans, PCR teams were also told to patrol around temples, gurdwaras, mosques or other sect religious deras to prevent any such attack in future. DCP said the police were already alert due to the input of infiltration of terrorists in Punjab, but with the attack in Amritsar, over 40 police nakas were set up in the city, adding that special checking of vehicles was also being done. Meanwhile, the railway police also carried out special checks and checked passengers’ belongings. Suspicious people were also frisked.— TNS
