Servant decamps with Rs 25 lakh, 50-tola gold

LUDHIANA: A Nepalese servant employed just 12 days ago by a hosiery factory owner at his house in Panchsheel colony, held the owner’s wife hostage, thrashed her and decamped with a cash of Rs 25 lakh cash, 50-tola gold ornaments, 1-kg silver and three laptops here on Wednesday.

A Nepalese servant employed just 12 days ago by a hosiery factory owner at his house in Panchsheel colony, held the owner’s wife hostage, thrashed her and decamped with a cash of Rs 25 lakh cash, 50-tola gold ornaments, 1-kg silver and three laptops here on Wednesday.

Sarabha Nagar SHO Madhu Bala reached the spot to conduct investigation, but at the time of filing this report, the police were not having any clues.

The complainant, Rakesh Kumar, told the police that he owned a hosiery factory Baweja Brothers at Madhopuri, and on Wednesday, he went to his factory and his two sons also went to their school. When his sons returned from the school at around 1.30 pm, they were shocked to see the condition of their mother who was tied with the bed.

“I was in my room when our Nepalese servant, along with two unknown persons, barged into my room and started thrashing me. They then tied me with the bed and snatched the almirah key and took away cash and ornaments,” the woman alleged.

The complainant said he had kept Rs 25 lakh collected from his customers in Kashmir in the almirah. Gold was kept also kept in the almirah as his daughter was to come from Canada and they had scheduled some party in December, he added.

The police said about 12 days back, the hosiery owner had employed the Nepalese servant on the recommendations of his friend and the police verification of the servant was yet to be done.

As per CCTV footage, the servant, along with two of his friends, entered our house at 11.30 am and after stealing the cash and gold, they field at 12.30 pm.

Interestingly, this is the not the first incident when a Nepalese servant committed the crime. Many such incidents took place in the past and the Ludhiana police failed to nab them.
