Barnala skipper, Amarjot Kaur, won the toss and opted to bat first. They made 118 runs after losing nine wickets in 50 overs. The main contributors were Ranjit Kaur and Alisha who scored 22 and 19 runs, respectively while Tess S made 14 runs, Akshita Bhagat contributed 13 runs and Astha chipped in with 12 runs.
For Ludhiana, Sezaljeet Kaur was the pick of bowlers, taking four wickets for 18 runs in nine overs while captain Aishmine Kaur grabbed two wickets in 10 overs after conceding 22 runs whereas Moli Grewal and Akansha Saini secured one wicket each after giving away nine and 27 runs, respectively.
Ludhiana began their reply on a dismal note, losing the opener Manya Sharma returning to the pavilion after making just three runs while her partner Akansha Saini left without opening the account.
However, Aishmine Kaur stood her ground and denied any more success to the opponents. She was ably assisted by Panmeet Kaur who thwarted Barnala bowlers’ attempts to make further inroads.
Aishmine was batting on 37 runs, studded with five boundaries off 58 balls and Panmeet was on five (63 for 2 after 16.5 overs) when it started raining. The match was called off since the outfield was not fit to resume the play.
As the match remained unresolved, the VJD method (V Jayadevan system for calculating target scores in an interrupted one-day and T20 cricket matches) was used to arrive at a result. Thus, Ludhiana were declared winners on basis of better run rate.
