The Shiv Sena Punjab on Wednesday staged a protest against the contractor who was awarded Gill Chowk flyover project. The party activists said rats were blamed for the retaining wall collapse to hide alleged faults in the construction of the flyover.

Chairman of Shiv Sena Punjab Rajiv Tandon alleged that substandard material was used in the construction of the flyover. The MC officials are protecting Deepak Builders (who built the flyover) by putting the entire blame on rats, he added.

Alleging discrepancies in the construction of the flyover, Tandon blamed the MC officials for allegedly awarding the flyover contract to an inexperienced builder. He further alleged that the flyover could have been constructed at a cost of Rs 18 crore but the contract was awarded at an estimated cost of Rs 23 crore to the builder.

“There is a need to conduct a fare investigation into the matter,” he said.
