As we were putting a fence around the jhuggis on December 6, Lakhwinder, along with his other family members, attacked us with swords, gandasa and sticks. When my friend Charanjit came to our rescue, he was also beaten up and the women of our families were also thrashed by wife and daughters of Hansa Singh,” the complainant said.

The police have registered a case against Lakhwinder Singh, Sahmsher Singh, both sons of Hansa Singh; wife of Hansa Singh and her daughters. No arrest has been made so far.

Industrialist beaten up by defaulting buyer

Ashok Kumar, a factory owner at Sirhind (resident of Mandi Gobindgarh) and his son Parveen Jain were allegedly thrashed by Raj Kumar, also a factory owner at Kohara, by 20-25 other persons over payment of goods supplied to the latter.

In his complaint to the Koom Kalan police, Ashok said he had sent two consignments of iron and steel material worth Rs 45,166,169 through a broker Raja Parashar and the payment of the material was to be made within 15 days.

“As the payment was not received by due date, a reminder was sent to the buyer who told me to collect the payment from his factory at Kohara on September 16. When I reached the factory of the accused person (Romax Steel), he, along with 20-25 other persons, abused and scuffled with me and my son. They also threatened us with dire consequences if we insisted on payment against goods purchased by him,” said the complaint.
