The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Tuesday announced to hold a series of protest from March 6 over the state government’s “repression” and the Centre’s policies, members of the union said.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the chaired by Satnam Singh Ajnala.
The protests will start with a march in Bathinda on March 6.
Union members said a nationwide ‘Kisan Bachao’, or save the farmers, campaign will kick off with a mega rally in Barnala on March 10. They said the rally is expected to get an attendance of over 50,000 farmers. A meeting of farmers, labourers and employee unions is scheduled for March 12 at Kisan Bhawan in Chandigarh.
The March-12 meeting is to chalk out a plan for March 23, which will be observed as “anti-imperialism day” to mark the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, the union members said.
The key demands include scrapping of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the US, the Seed Bill 2025 and the Electricity Bill, complete loan waivers for farmers, the restoration of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and resolution of water disputes.
