Ludhiana, August 11
As the authorities concerned have failed to resolve the issue of overflowing sewers on the main Giaspura Road that leads to the PSPCL office and poor condition of other major roads leading to Giaspura, members of the Samajwadi Party, Punjab, staged a protest by burning the effigy of the MC, Ludhiana, and the state government here on Tuesday.
RK Yadav, a senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, said the main road was flooded due to overflowing sewers for a long time. Earlier, the sewerage work was started on the stretch but it was not completed.
“Besides, the condition of other roads is too bad as the MC has failed to ensure repair of potholes before the beginning of the rainy season. Accidents often occur due to these reasons but the civic body seems to be in a deep slumber,” he said.
The protesters said the inauguration of road projects had been done many times but the civic body did nothing at the ground level, putting commuters at risk.
“The Mayor, the MC Commissioner and the officials concerned are not paying any attention towards the problems being faced by residents. We have also written a letter to the Chief Minister regarding the poor condition of roads in the Giaspura area. If the MC did not take required steps at the earliest, we will be forced to start an agitation against the civic body and the state government,” said a protester.
