Specially reduced power tariff to continue for units

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has announced that specially reduced tariff would continue for large supply (LS) and medium supply (MS) industrial consumers who opt to use electricity exclusively during night hours (10 pm to 6 am) during the financial year 2020-21. It has also been decided to extend this facility to small power (SP) category of industrial consumers.

Based on the tariff order for financial year 2020-21 by the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC), the commercial circular (30/2020 dated June 3, 2020) issued by the PSPCL says that the consumers availing benefit of specially reduced power tariff during night hours would have to bear the cost of compatible meters.

It has been stated that as per the directions of the PSERC, use of electricity from 6 am to 10 pm at normal tariff would also be allowed to industrial consumers under night tariff during the paddy season of financial year 2020-21.

The PSPCL has laid down that the power tariff exclusively during night for LS, MS and SP consumers would be Rs 4.83 per kVAh while for power consumed during day (6 am to 10 pm) it would be normal tariff as applicable for LS consumers, Rs 5.80 for MS consumers and Rs 5.37 per kVAh for SP consumers. These consumers would also have to pay 50 per cent of the fixed charges specified for the relevant categories.

It has been further made clear that the facility of specially reduced tariff for electricity consumed during night would be subject to terms and conditions specified in the circular and this tariff would remain applicable from June 1 to March 31.

“While the PSPCL has been directed to provide compatible meters to the consumers who exercise the option to switch over to exclusive night time tariff, the consumers would also be at liberty to arrange their own compatible meters and get these installed from the PSPCL as per the laid down procedure,” says the PSPCL circular.
