  • To phase out single use plastic items by 2022, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India notified the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021. From July 1, India will ban manufacture, import, distribution, sale and use of identified single use plastic items all across the country.

Ahmedgarh SDM Harbans Singh and Raikot SDM Gurbir Singh Kohli said shopkeepers, office-bearers of unions working for welfare of traders, councillors and residents have been told about the ill-effects of single-use plastic.

“We have informed all concerned that complete ban has been imposed on manufacture, transportation, storage, sale and use of single use plastic items like utensils made of plastics, stickers, covers and bags with effect from Friday,” said Harbans Singh and Gurbir Singh Kohli maintaining that all stakeholders had been sensitised about importance of the issue.

Chandar Parkash Wadhwa and Amarinder Singh, Executive Officers at Ahmedgarh and Raikot Municipal Councils said special teams of officials from various departments had been constituted which would work round-the-clock to check violation of the guidelines. “Though initially we will try to get the guidelines implemented by persuading stakeholders, all concerned have been told about the punitive actions in case of any violation,” said the executive officers.

Notably, India will ban manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of identified single-use plastic items with low utility and high littering potential all across the country from July 1.
