Punjab players created history at the 2nd Asian Junior Soft Tennis Championship with a string of medal-winning performances.
The prestigious championship was held from February 4 to 8 at the Harvest Tennis Academy, Jassowal Kular village, under the aegis of the Asian Soft Tennis Federation and the Amateur Soft Tennis Federation of India.
Teams from nations including China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Nepal, Bhutan, Laos, Timor, Sri Lanka, Thailand, along with the host nation India, competed in the four-day international event.
Jaywant Singh Grewal, Armaan Singh and Sahajpreet Singh Bajwa emerged as medal winners. Jaywant emerged as one of the standout performers, clinching a gold medal in the team event, a silver medal in singles and a bronze medal in doubles, marking a remarkable triple-medal feat.
Meanwhile, Armaan and Sahajpreet also played a crucial role in India’s success, securing gold medals in the team event and bronze medals in doubles category.
Narinder Singh, general secretary, Soft Tennis Association of Punjab said players representing India delivered an exceptional performance against strong Asian opposition. “The medal haul has been described as a historic moment for Punjab’s soft tennis fraternity, reflecting the growing strength of sport in the region,” he said.
Congratulating the medal winners, dignitaries including MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali, Vikramjeet Singh, Anumeet Singh Heera Sodhi and Dr Pradeep Kumar Singh extended best wishes and lauded the players for bringing international recognition to Punjab.
