STF nabs 3 with 2.5-kg heroin

The Special Task Force on Saturday nabbed three smugglers and recovered 2.5-kg heroin from them. The STF also recovered 10 mobile phones, Rs80,000 drug money and an Innova from them.

The accused have been identified as Amit Kumar (35), a resident of Krishna Nagar; Varinder Singh Soni (27) of Chimni Road and Harsimran Singh (32) of Lakkad Bazaar.

AIG Sharma said a tip-off was received that three persons were on their way to deliver drugs to their clients and were coming from Gill Road. They were to deliver drugs to their clients in Harkrishan Nagar.

Accordingly, the STF laid a naka and after intercepting the Innova, it was stopped for checking. During the search of the vehicle, 2.5-kg heroin was recovered.

During questioning, accused Varinder told the police that he owns a shoe store near Arora Palace and was also facing three cases of drug peddling against him at various police stations. He admitted that he was into the notorious trade for the past five years and took to the profession to become rich in a short span.

Harsimran on the other hand admitted that he owns a scrap shop in Lakkad Bazaar and started trading drugs about three years ago and was already facing six cases of drug peddling among others.

They admitted that they had been bringing the supply of heroin from some smugglers in Amritsar, which they were later selling to their clients in Ludhiana and surrounding areas.

Inspector Harbans said the police remand of the accused would be sought from the court, so that the entire supply line of drugs could be busted and in further probe more recovery of drugs could be made.
