Ludhiana, June 17

A major fire broke out at a garment factory in Sundar Nagar on Wednesday. The factory is situated in an area where hundreds of other units exist. Initially, the fire spread on the second floor. Timely arrival of fire brigade personnel helped in bringing the blaze under control otherwise it could have spread in the entire building.

As per fire officials, huge stock of goods was lying on the factory premises. Fire fighters managed to control the fire on time, they added.

Fortunately, it was narrow escape for around six workers, who were present on the site, but they left the factory premises the moment they noticed smoke.

As per the available information, fire broke out at around 7.30 am on Wednesday at Hiphop factory. A factory worker said they had started shift at 7 am. Within 10 minutes, there was a sudden power cut and blackout in the entire factory, he added. In no time, smoke started billowing out from the second floor of the factory, he said. Taking precautions, workers immediately left the factory premises, he added. Workers then informed the factory owner, who called fire brigade.

As per the factory owner, he owned three other units in Ludhiana, but due to the lockdown, working of all units was shifted to the Sundar Nagar unit as he was not able to pay rent.

Entire stock of the other three units was shifted to the Sundar Nagar- based factory, he added. Unfortunately, the entire stock worth lakhs was gutted in the fire, he said.

As per the sub-fire officer, Aatish Rai, after getting information fire tenders from the Sundar Nagar area reached the spot and started operation within few minutes.

About half a dozen fire tenders were sent to douse flames, he added. Only three fire tenders managed to douse flames, he said. The fire was controlled within in just two hours, he added.
