National Youth Day was celebrated to mark Swami Vivekanand’s 154th birth anniversary here on Friday at UPSC Jain Public School, Jamalpur, Ludhiana.

The gathering was directed by members of the Bhartiya Vikas Parishad (BVP). The function started with the recitation of national song ‘Vande Mataram’, followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp.

A special lecture on Swami Vivekanand’s life and doctrine was presented by guest speaker Vishal Sharma from the Vivekanand Kendra.

He emphasised on instilling the feeling of nationalism in the youth. He focused on his humanistic, spiritualistic and educative beliefs that could help in resolving the current challenges of society.

Brij Bhushan Bansal conducted a quiz based on the lecture and those whose answers were correct were given prizes. Later, students were asked to perform charitable activities on their birthdays for people with disabilities.

They were told about the principles of the Bhartiya Vikas Parishad — sampark, sahyog, sanskar, sewa and samarpan. The celebration concluded with the national anthem.
