Tanvir Singh wins gold in high jump at state school athletics meet

LUDHIANA: Tanvir Singh of Ludhiana proved too good for his opponents as he clinched the gold medal in the high jump event (boys’ U-19 category) on the opening day of the 64th Punjab State Schools Athletics Meet which began at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Monday.

Tanvir Singh of Ludhiana proved too good for his opponents as he clinched the gold medal in the high jump event (boys’ U-19 category) on the opening day of the 64th Punjab State Schools Athletics Meet which began at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Monday.

His city mate Prabhjeet Singh followed Tanvir at the second spot to win the silver medal, while Sidharth of Faridkot secured the third position.

A large number of athletes (boys and girls U-14, 17 and 19) are taking part in the five-day meet being organised by the Punjab Education Department.

Pradeep Agrawal, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana declared the meet open.

Results

1,500-m race (boys U-19): 1st Harshdeep Singh from Patiala, 2nd Gurvinder Singh from Ferozepur and 3rd Jagmohan Singh from Jalandhar.

1,500-m race (girls U-19): 1st Rajatbir Kaur from Jalandhar, 2nd Lashmi Devi from Ropar and Rupinder Kaur from Amritsar.

High jump (boys U-19): 1st Tanvir Singh from Ludhiana, Prabhjeet Singh from Ludhiana and Sidharth from Faridkot.

Discus-throw (girls U-17): 1st Jaskanwal Kaur from Patiala, 2nd Jasmeet Kaur from Ludhiana and 3rd Manjot Kaur from Tarn Taran.

Long jump (boys U-14): 1st Kulbir Singh from Tarn Taran, 2nd Gurdesh Singh from Fazilka and 3rd Gurwinder Pal Singh from Ludhiana.

Shot-put (boys U-14): 1st Joban Singh from Jalandhar, 2nd Hushanpreet from Sangrur and 3rd Arshdeep Singh from Moga.

High jump (girls U-19): 1st Harpreet Kaur from Sangrur, 2nd Amanpreet Kaur from Hoshiarpur and 3rd Anju from Muktsar.

Shot put (boys U-17): 1st Amandeep Singh from Sangrur, 2nd Jaskaran Singh from Kapurthala and 3rd Shubhkarman Singh from Jalandhar.

Triple jump (boys U-17): 1st Narpinder Singh from Ghuda Wing, 2nd Sandeep Singh from Ropar Wing and 3rd Sukhbir Singh from Jalandhar Wing.

Discus-throw (boys U-19): 1st Jaskaransurat Singh from Amritsar, 2nd Navjot Singh from Jalandhar and 3rd Simranjot Singh from Patiala.
