The menace of beggars in the city is increasing day by day. On all the major roundabouts, and near malls and markets, the beggars, including old men, women and children are seen begging for alms in pitiable condition. Yesterday, a small girl child of about 8 years walking with the help of crutches was seen asking for money. When she was given money, she looked back, smiled and ran away, holding the same crutches in the hands. It was so shocking to see how the mafia was giving training to such kids, while authorities felt helpless to tackle situation.

Parking muddle

Just after a couple of months after the parking sites were allotted through e-auction by the Municipal Corporation, cancellation of at least three parking contractors is on the cards, while another contractor, allotted three parking sites, has decided to quit amid rampant complaints of overcharging. The MC had allotted a dozen odd sites for paid parking in August 2018, but proper system for issuing computerised parking tickets, installation of CCTV cameras and other regulations laid down in the parking contract were never put in practice simply due to vested interests of the contractors and indifference of supervisory staff of the MC. Even behind proposed cancellation of parking contracts for a few sites, MC is facing allegations of political interference.

Leader on inauguration spree for road project

It is well known that leaders of political parties have quite a liking for inaugurating various projects. Raikot Road of Jagraon, which had been in poor condition has been constructed after a long time and the people are relieved after the beginning of the construction work of the road. To take credit of the road construction, a former minister inaugurated the construction work of this road some time back. But as he was not contented with this, he once again inaugurated the construction work during a separate function organised some days later. This act of the former minister has been the talking point of the local residents.

Victim’s phone missing after road accident

A man met with a road mishap recently and he sustained multiple injuries. Some passers-by stopped there to know his condition. Meanwhile, his mobile phone went missing, but someone informed his family members about the incident by using the same mobile. After getting information his family reached the spot and they took him to nearby hospital in the car of a commuter. The father of the injured person tried to search his son’s mobile phone, but to no avail. After some time, the phone was switched off. His father could not get any information about the person who had used his son’s phone to inform them about the mishap.
