The city police today claimed to have busted a gang of bike thieves and recovered 10 stolen motorcycles from their possession.
They have been identified as Mohit Dhingra of Dashmesh Colony and Bhupinder Singh of Model House.
Joint Commissioner of Police (City) Bhagirath Singh Meena and ADCP 3 Sameer Verma conducted an online press conference to give the details of the case.
Meena said on August 16, a motorcycle was stolen in the city and the thieves were captured on CCTV cameras. When the police started investigation into the case, both thieves were arrested.
Revealing their modus operandi, Meena said the gang mostly targeted people riding old motorcycles because they believed it was easy to break their locks. After stealing the two-wheelers, the suspects sold them to their clients.
He said when the suspects were questioned, they confessed to having committed several vehicle thefts in the city. On the disclosures made by both suspects, 10 motorcycles were recovered from them.
Verma said Mohit worked at some hosiery. Bhupinder was unemployed and had come out of central jail on bail in some criminal case in October last year.
