Ludhiana: The police have arrested Inderjit Singh of Model Town who operates a food truck at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Colony. He has been booked under sections 188 and 269 of the IPC and section 51 of the Disaster Management Act for allegedly serving customers after the stipulated time for closure of all eating joints. Sudhir Kumar, a resident of Nandpur in Sahnewal, has been arrested under sections 188, 269 and 270 of the IPC for keeping open his sweets shop on Dehlon Road after the stipulated time for closure. A general store owner in Balala Colony, Shambhu Thakur, a resident of Gobindgarh village, has been arrested under sections 188 and 269 of the IPC for keeping his shop open defying lockdown and also allowing a crowd of customers who were neither wearing masks nor maintaing social distance. Bid to encroach on street

Ludhiana: The police have registered a case under sections 447, 341, 511, 506, 509 and 34 of the IPC against a woman resident of Guru Nanak Nagar locality. The police said as per a complaint lodged by Satish Kumar, a resident of the same colony, the woman had made an attempt to encroach on a public street by putting up a gate to connect her two plots located opposite to each other. Further, the woman, along with her brother Varinder Singh, threatened the complainant when he raised objection to her action. No arrest has been made so far. OC

Theft suspect held in Gujarat

Ludhiana: The city police claimed to have solved a case of theft that occurred at a shop in Toor Complex on Dugri Road, here, on June 4, 2020, with the arrest of the suspect from Gujarat. The suspect, Navreet Karnani, a resident of Onkareshwar in Gujarat, had allegedly broke into the shop and took away a laptop, 15-20 CNG kits and Rs 7,000 in cash from the shop. Investigating officer ASI Partap Singh said the suspect was a frequent visitor to the shop and after the theft, the shop owner, Ajay Kumar, had suspected Navreet to be behind the crime. After preliminary investigation, the police arrested the suspect from his residence in Gujarat on June 29. The police said the stolen laptop had been recovered while the suspect said the money stolen from the shop had been spent by him. The CNG kits were yet to be recovered, the police said, adding that the suspect, was being interrogated by cops. oc

Man nabbed with stolen bike

Ludhiana: The city police have arrested a person, identified as Raja Paswan, a resident of Mullanpur Dakha. He was going towards Clock Tower Chowk to sell a stolen Bajaj Platina motorcycle (PB 10HA 4665) to someone. On a tip off, the police nabbed the suspect and a case under Section 379, IPC, has been registered against him. Meanwhile, three motorcycles were reportedly stolen from various places in the city. Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Rarri Mohalla, said in a complaint to the police that his Bullet motorcycle (PB 10HH 5160), parked outside his house was stolen during the intervening night of August 1 and 2. The complainant said he had also come to know that another motorcycle, owned by Ram Sarup, a resident of Brown Road, had also been stolen around that time. Another Hero Splendor motorcycle (bearing registration No. PB 10EU 5971) was reportedly stolen from Kipps Market in Sarabha Nagar on August 2 by Harwinder Singh of Baddowal. A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered. TNS
