Rash and reckless driving on city roads claimed three lives during the past 48 hours.

A youth, Arjun, a resident of Mahavir Colony in Haibowal, was hit by a speeding white car near Ram Sharnam Mandir on Hambran Road while returning home from work on a Honda Active scooter with his co-worker Amit Kumar. On a complaint lodged by Amit Kumar, the police have registered a case under Sections 279, 304-A and 427 of the IPC.

In another incident, Bhagwant Singh (38) of Doraha was hit by a speeding car while coming from the Kohara side towards Sahnewal on a Honda Activa scooter with his mother near Grain Market, Sahnewal.

Bhagwant fell on the road and sustained grievous injuries. He succumbed to his injuries on Thursday at a local hospital. On a complaint lodged by Amarjit Kaur, the mother of the deceased, the police have registered a case.

An unknown middle-aged man was spotted lying dead on the main road behind Oswal Cancer Hospital by a tea vendor, Kamal Kumar, on Thursday morning. The deceased was apparently hit by a speeding Mahindra Bolero pick-up vehicle, which went out of control due to bursting of one of its tyres and later hitting against a wall. The police have impounded the vehicle and have booked the unidentified driver under sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
