Notorious travel agent Nitish Ghai has again been brought on production warrant from the Ludhiana Central Jail by the city police for more thorough questioning about his illegal trade of travel and immigration.

It was learnt that Nitish had made startling revelations during his interrogation about the connivance of policemen and other persons who were sharing profits from the illegal trade. However, the police do not believe him and would investigate his claims made about the police officials.

Additional DCP Surendra Lamba, who has been leading the probe since the first FIR was registered against the agent, told The Tribune that Nitish was brought on production warrant. After producing him before the court, his police remand was sought. He would be produced before the court on July 19 when the police would seek extension to his police remand.

“The notorious travel agent has been facing more than 44 FIRs and even more are in the pipeline as hundreds of complaints are still pending. We have to corroborate disclosures made by him during interrogation to write a long tale of notorious trade and the persons connected to it if police officials involved,” said Lamba.

Ask if Nitish named any police officials who could have been sheltering him, Lamba said the accused had named some policemen who were sharing profits from the illegal trade, but the police couldn’t believe the accused until the corroboration of his claims is pending.

“He is a swindler and a notorious person. He can name any one, including policemen, just to distract the police from the track of investigation. But we will not take any action against policemen until his claims are verified by our investigation team,” claimed Lamba.
