Trial in Rinkal Khera murder case begins

Ludhiana, July 4

The Rinkal Khera murder trial commenced with the recording of statement of the first prime prosecution witness, Neelam Kaur of Amarpura. The trial begun following the directions of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.

The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Munish Arora recorded the statement of the witness, who claims to have identified all four suspects.

She claimed that on July 19, 2018, she was outside the house of Gurdeep Singh Neetu, a councillor, when around eight persons came out of his house, including the son of councillor Jatinder Pal Singh, alias Sunny.

Then Gurdeep told her that Rinkal, a BJP activist, had removed the turban of his son and put photos on social media, insulting them and lowering their reputation. After 20-25 minutes, the suspects returned and entered the house of the councillor. In a short span, they left the house in a red car.

Defence lawyers also done cross-questioning. The case would now come up for hearing on July 24. — OC
