The anti-smuggling cell of the Ludhiana police have nabbed two liquor smugglers and recovered 180 cases of illicit liquor from them.

They have been identified as Davinder Singh Dev and Rajinder Kumar, both residents of Fazilka.

Yashpal Sharma, in charge of the cell, said they received information that some smugglers were on the way to Ludhiana to deliver a huge consignment of illicit liquor. The police set up a naka near the Verka Milk Plant and signalled a truck and a car to stop. The police searched the vehicles and recovered illicit liquor.

Yashpal said the truck driver jumped out of the vehicle and escaped.

Preliminary questioning of both suspects revealed that they had brought the consignment of liquor from Satpal of Haryana who owned liquor vends. It liquor was to be delivered to clients in Ludhiana.

Satpal will be nabbed in the case as he had sold the liquor to the suspects, said Yashpal.
