Ludhiana: The Moti Nagar police have booked two persons on the charge of committing Rs 14-lakh fraud. They have been identified as Amarnath and Mandeep, both residents of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony. The complainant, Jagdish Sharma of Janakpuri, told the police that in 2017, he bought a shop from Amarnath for Rs 14 lakh. Recently, he went to Bihar where he got to know that Amarnath had taken possession of the shop without his permission. The police said after verifying the allegations, a case of fraud was registered against both suspects. TNS

14-year-old girl ‘kidnapped’

Ludhiana: A 14-year-old girl has been kidnapped by an unknown person. Raj Kumar of Badewal Road told the police that his daughter, Aarti, went missing from home on Thursday and he suspected that she had been kidnapped by some person on the pretext of marrying her. The police have registered a kidnap case against an unknown person. TNS

Man held for looting cash

Ludhiana: The Salem Tabri police have nabbed a man on the charge of looting cash from a man near Amar Palace. The complainant, Rajinder Kalia of Chandar Nagar, told the police that on Thursday, he was at the palace to take stock of preparations for his son’s marriage. While he was returning home, somebody threw tomato sauce on his face and snatched his bag containing Rs 75,000. Later, the snatcher was identified as Shiva, a resident of Madhya Pradesh. TNS

Wushu contest: GPC student wins silver medal

Khanna: Roshan Kumar, a student of BA-1 at Gobindgarh Public College, Alour, Khanna, brought laurels to the college by winning a silver medal in the Panjab University Inter College Wushu Competition. Principal Neena Seth Pajni said the competition was held at PU gymnasium hall, Chandigarh, on January 17, 2019. In all 10 colleges, affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh, participated in the competition. Principal and Chairman, GPC, Swaranjit Singh Bagli congratulated the student and teachers for this achievement. oc

21-yr-old woman hangs self

Ludhiana: A 21-year-old married girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the grills of the stairs at her rented accommodation in Pritam Nagar.  She allegedly took the extreme step as she was being harassed for dowry by her in-laws. The deceased has been identified as Manpreet Kaur. She was a student of BA-1. Her husband Pawan Gupta has been booked by the Jagatpuri police post under Section 304 B (dowry death) of the IPC. The accused, who are residents of Hargobind Nagar, are yet to be arrested. Jagatpuri police post in-charge Krishan Lal said the girl got married to Pawan Gupta, who was a daily wager, about six months ago. It was a love marriage but exactly a month after marriage, she started living at a rented accommodation in Pritam Nagar with her husband. The girl's kin alleged that their daughter was being tortured by her husband and in-laws for want of more dowry, due to which she was under depression. On Saturday when she was alone at home, she killed herself. She was found dead when her husband reached home. ASI Krishan said no suicide note was recovered from the spot. He said a dowry death case was registered against the accused and raids were on to nab them. TNS
