Two-day athletics meet concludes at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College in Ludhiana

Energies ran high as the 65th Annual Athletics Meet at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDEC) concluded on Friday with a prize distribution ceremony at the college sports complex, said officials.

They said Air Commodore Jeetinderpal Singh (retd), an alumnus of the 1983-87 batch, gave away prizes to the position holders of the two-day event. He was welcomed by principal Sehjipal Singh, deans, heads of departments and members of the sports committee.

Singh congratulated the winners and lauded the institution for promoting sports alongside academic excellence.

The best male and female athletes got cash prizes of Rs 3,100 each. Medals and certificates were presented to all position holders.

Iqbal Singh, director, Nankana Sahib Education Trust, commended the participants for their enthusiasm.

In the high jump event for girls, Simranpreet Kaur bagged the first position. Aditi Kaushal and Sukhmandeep Kaur stood second and third, respectively. In the 400-metre race, Jashandeep Kaur was the first to cross the line, followed by Anchal Sharma and Pooja Bhandari.

In shot put, Manisha’s throw got her the top spot at the podium, accompanied by Manya and Manjot Kaur in that order.

In triple jump, Maskeenjot Kaur was first, Sarbjeet Kaur stood second and Jashandeep Kaur got the third spot.

In the 3,000m race, Daljeet Kaur bagged the first position, followed by Monika Sargotra and Jiya Verma.

Among boys, Jaspinder Singh bagged the top spot in triple jump. He was accompanied on the podium by Ifkar Alam (second) and Pawan Singh (third).

In 10,000m race, Anish Kumar Sharma set an example of resilience and stamina. Jashandeep Singh and Sameer Kohli finished second and third, respectively.

In long jump, Jaspinder Singh, Manvir Singh and Simranjeet Singh bagged the top three positions, respectively.
