Ludhiana, February 27

The Salem Tabri police today claimed to have solved the murder case in which a half-burnt body was found in an empty plot in Salem Tabri a few days ago. Two friends of the deceased were arrested.

The victim was identified as Kamaljit Singh.

The suspects have been identified as Arjun Singh and Tarun of Salem Tabri. The duo were friends of the deceased.

SHO, Salem Tabri, inspector Harjit Singh said on February 21, the suspects had taken Kamaljit along to consume chitta together. Since it was dark, to consume drugs, they set a piece of cloth and some other stuff on fire. Kamaljit’s cloth caught fire and he was engulfed in the blaze. The duo initially tried to douse the flames but afterwards, they decided to flee the scene.

Later when the victim’s family was searching for the victim, the suspects also accompanied them to the police station for lodging a missing complaint and some places to search the victim. The duo also secretly visited the plot where his body was lying, the SHO said.

It was only when the police got suspicious about the role of the suspects, they were rounded up and during questioning, they confessed to committing the crime. They said they all, including the deceased, used to consume drugs together and on February 21 while consuming the same, Kamaljit’s clothes caught fire and he died. To save their skin, they fled the scene, he said.
