The Sidhwan Bet police conducted a major raid and nabbed two liquor smugglers. The police also seized 20,000-litre ‘lahan (kachi daru)’ and 200 bottles of illicit liquor.

The suspects have been identified as Tapal Singh Satta, a resident of Kanian Hussain, and Manjit Singh, alias Vicky, of Parjian Bihari.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Hardeep Singh said the police were patrolling on the Girdarwindi road when they received a tip-off that the suspects were involved in smuggling and had kept a huge stock of illegal liquor. They also made country-made liquor at a spot near the Satluj.

Accordingly, the police party conducted a raid and nabbed the suspects with illicit liquor. The SI said the suspects had been distilling illegal liquor and used to supply it to their clients in the region.

He said the police remand of the suspects would be sought in the case for further interrogation so that more of their aides could be nabbed.
