Nearly two months after the suspicious death of Diljot Sharma, an advocate, her family members and various public organisations on Monday staged a protest outside the Commissioner of Police’s office, alleging that the incident was not being probed “seriously”.

The protesters said the police had neither conducted a forensic examination of the alleged suicide note, nor obtained a detailed post-mortem report.

The deceased’s mother said if justice was not delivered, she would start an indefinite sit-in outside the CP office.

Sumit Sood, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), reached the site and pacified the protesters, promising them that police will arrest the culprits and file a chargesheet within 21 days. The protest was called off after the assurance.

An “action committee” formed to get justice for the advocate said that if the police failed to honour the promise, the family will launch a permanent sit-in.
