Ludhiana, December 27

There seems to be no respite from coronavirus as 53 more suspected patients tested positive for Covid and two more lives were lost during the past 24 hours. However, the recovery rate of the infected patients did indicate an upward trend as there were only 403 active patients in the district at present.

Civil Surgeon Rajesh Bagga said a total of 75 patients (53 from Ludhiana and 22 from other states/districts) had tested positive and three patients (two from Ludhiana and one from Moga) had died here. With this, the death toll from Ludhiana had gone up to 958 while 443 patients from other districts and states had succumbed to the virus.

Till date, a total of 5,29,995 samples were taken, of which reports of 5,28,682 had been received. A total of 5,00,373 samples were found negative while reports of 1,313 were pending. He said now, the total number of positive patients from the district was 24,649 and 3,660 patients had been brought here for treatment from other districts/states.

Dr Bagga said, at present, the number of patients in home quarantine was 1,549 as 100 more suspected cases were sent for home quarantine. As many as 2,222 fresh samples of suspected patients were sent for testing today and their results were expected shortly. — OC
