Civil Hospital staff express gratitude

Meanwhile, the staff of the Civil Hospital have thanked Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Health Minister Balbir Sidhu for a rapid intervention with regard to their demands by providing them with quality masks. On May 19, the doctors went on strike in protest against the poor quality of N95 masks provided to them. Four Class IV employees of the Civil Hospital, who tested positive for Covid, had blamed the low quality masks for them falling ill.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said in future, a committee would check the quality of such products thoroughly.

‘Cardiac patients should not exercise wearing masks’

Dr RP Singh, MD and Senior Cardiac Surgeon of Pancham Hospital, has advised patients suffering from heart diseases not to do exercise while wearing masks. “The level of carbon dioxide in the body increases while running. This can also increase your heartbeat. Due to rapid breathing, part of carbon dioxide gets trapped in the mask which causes difficulty in breathing. This condition can be quite fatal for patients suffering from various heart diseases. Normal people may also face trouble doing running exercises while wearing masks,” said Dr Singh.

People not wearing mask to be fined Rs200

Commissioner of Police Rakesh Kumar Agrawal has said from Friday, any person found not wearing mask would be fined Rs 200 by the police. He said for strict enforcement of curfew past 7 pm, 110 special nakas are set up daily by around 1,600 police personnel.
