Ludhiana, July 3
The PAU police have registered a murder case against two siblings who had allegedly killed the former husband of their mother in Talwara village a few days ago. The siblings had attacked the victim on June 9 and he died at the PGI, Chandigarh, yesterday.
The suspects have been identified as Jaspreet Singh (25) and Jasdeep Singh (23). The victim, identified as Gurmel Singh (57), was a priest at a shrine in Talwara.
Dharamjit Kaur, sister of Gurmel, told the police that his brother had first married Shinder Kaur but their marriage could only last two and a half years, and both separated. A few months later, Shinder married a man who lived in Tharike village. Shinder had two sons Jasdeep and Jaspreet from that marriage.
Dharamjit said Shinder’s second husband died about eight years ago. After the death of her second husband, she started relationship with Gurmel again, but her sons were against that relationship. They had told their mother and Gurmel to stay away from each other.
On June 9, both sons barged into the shrine and assaulted Gurmel with sticks while he was asleep. He was taken to the local ESI hospital where the doctors referred him to the PGI in Chandigarh.
The police said raids were on to nab the suspects.
