Ludhiana: Two members of snatchers gang identified as Haider Ali and Salim Baggar were arrested while four of their accomplices Shaazmi, Mohammed Afzal and Chhota Don were booked under Sections 399 and 402, IPC, and Sections 25, 54 and 59, Arms Act. The suspects came in the police net when a raid was conducted at a vacant plot near Shamshan Ghat Puli on a tip-off about gang members hatching a conspiracy to loot a petrol pump. The police have also seized a Maruti car, a ‘kamanidar’ knife, a sword and an Activa scooter from the suspects. Search was on to nab other members of the gang, who managed to escape. TNS

Man loses Rs 49K to auto gang

Ludhiana: Ramandeep Singh, a resident of New Ashok Nagar, Salem Tabri, fell victim to an auto gang, which snatchedRs49,000 from him after offering him ride and then throwing him down from a moving auto- rickshaw (Registration No. PB-10EH-5616) near Clock Tower Chowk. According to Ramandeep, an employee with a spare parts shop, his employer had given him 98 currency notes of Rs500 denomination each for depositing in Bank of Baroda, Clock Tower branch. On the basis of information provided by the victim, the police have identified the duo as Shambhu and Jhangi, who have been booked under Sections 379-B and 34, IPC. Further investigation is on. TNS

Rs 1 lakh stolen from house

Ludhiana: Mohammed Imtiaz, a resident of Bhai Manna Singh Nagar, reported that an unknown person decamped with Rs1 lakh kept in a locked suitcase at his house. The complainant stated that a stranger came to his house on Tuesday after he and his wife had gone to work and told his seven-year-old daughter that her father had sent him to fetch Rs200 for some urgent work. The suspect gave Rs50 to the girl to bring a cold drink from a nearby shop and by the time she came back, he had disappeared after bolting the main gate of the house from outside. The police have registered a case under Sections 454 and 380, IPC, against the unknown suspect. TNS

Youth held for harassing girl

Ludhiana: The Dugri police have arrested Raj Kumar, a resident of New Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, and booked him under Sections 354, IPC, and Section 12, POCSO Act, for allegedly harassing and outraging modesty of a minor girl living in his vicinity. Victim’s father Balwinder Singh stated to the police that the suspect had been stalking and making vulgar gestures towards his daughter. He had caught the boy at his house on June 18, the complainant added. The matter was brought to the notice of suspect’s elder sister, he said. “On June 28, Raj Kumar again harassed my daughter and passed indecent remarks, which forced me to lodge a police complaint,” the complainant added.
