The police claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle thieves with the arrest of two of its members and recovered 16 stolen motorcycles from their possession. They have been identified as Kulwinder Singh, alias Inder, of Bhamina Kalan; and Gurmit Singh, alias Ghuddu, of Hawas village.
Additional DCP (Crime) Jagatpreet Singh said the police received secret information that a gang of vehicle thieves was roaming in the area. The police laid a trap and nabbed two members of the gang on Rahon Road. During questioning, both confessed that they had stolen more than 12 motorcycles in the past two months in the city. The police recovered 16 stolen motorcycles on the disclosures made by the two thieves.
The ADCP said the accused had mostly stolen Hero Spelndor bikes by breaking their locks. They failed to find any customer for the stolen bikes in the absence of their documents. The thieves had tampered with the chassis numbers of the stolen bikes.
Youth held with illegal pistol
The CIA 1 wing of the city police have nabbed a youth with an illegal .32-bore pistol and four cartridges. He has been identified as Rupesh Vij (23), a resident of Chandar Nagar. Additional DCP (Crime) Jagatpreet Singh said during routine patrolling, a police party stopped Rupesh for checking and recovered the illegal weapon from him. He had snatched the weapon from Sandy during a scuffle recently.
