University launches free milk adulteration checking drive

College of Dairy and Food Science Technology (CODFST), in association with Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, launched a free milk adulteration checking-cum-awareness drive.
Dr Inderjeet Singh, vice-chancellor, said that the initiative was designed to create awareness about safety of milk among consumers as well as milk suppliers. Awareness of producers about clean milk production will be another feature of the drive. The drive shall comprise of free testing of milk samples brought by any consumer from across Punjab for milk quality including its composition of fat and solids, as well as checking for the presence of various adulterants, in order to ensure the quality and safety of milk for the masses.
Dr Singh said in addition to testing, the campaign would also include a series of awareness programmes to be conducted in schools and colleges in different districts of the state. “These awareness sessions will focus on the methods of clean milk production for ensuring high quality and avoiding deterioration of milk, importance of milk safety, the methods of adulteration and risks associated with the consumption of such milk.”
