Ludhiana, July 6
Ludhiana district has recorded the highest number of cases in the state. No other district has reached the 1,000 mark yet. With 22 more cases reported today, the number has reached 1,092. The virus has claimed two more lives, taking the death toll to 27.
A 55-year-old man from Labour Colony, who was also a diabetic, died of Covid at Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital. Another patient who lost life to the virus was 43-year-old man, who was also suffering from cancer. He died at the PGI, Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, four new micro-containment zones were declared in Ludhiana. These are Rajiv Gandhi Colony in Focal Point, Labour Colony on Gaushala Road, Sun City on Almoh Road in Khanna and Field Ganj. Now, there are a total of nine micro containment zones in the region. Six positive cases have been reported from Rajiv Gandhi Colony, nine from Labour Colony, seven from Sun City and nine from Field Ganj so far.
The 22 cases reported today belong to Halwara, Jagraon, Dakha, Mullanpur, Habib Ganj, Jaspal Bangar, Vikas Nagar, Labour Colony, Dhandar Road, Ambedkar Nagar, Mundian Khurd, Civil Lines, Koom Kalan, Badundi and Gujarwal.
Six policemen are among the positive case. A 31-year-old havildar from the Dharampura police station in Division No. 3 tested positive today. All other staff of the police station have been quarantined. The other five policemen testing positive are from the rural police. They include an SI, two ASIs and two constables from the Dakha police station. They have been admitted to the Civil Hospital, Jagraon. They all are contacts of a sub-inspector who tested positive on July 1.
